There are three adjectives in Bidayuh Jagoi that describe "hot" when combined with the word pi'in (water):
Pi'in Bongoh (pronounced Pee'in Bo-ngoh) = Hot water
Pi'in Polas (pronounced Pee'in Po-las) = Hot water
Pi'in Ngilongat (pronounced Pee'in Ngi-longat) = Hot water
Explanation of Each Term:
- Bongoh is a general term for "hot" and can be used in various contexts, such as a hot day (onu bongoh) or a hot body (gonan bongoh).
- Polas comes from the word for spiciness, similar to the heat of chili peppers. Since hot water gives a burning sensation like chili spiciness, it is called pi'in polas
- Ngilongat is specifically used for hot water and is understood as such even without pi'in.
In daily life, all three terms are used interchangeably with pi'in to describe hot water.
